10 years later

For our anniversary we loaded up the kids and drove over to Ezichel's barn where we had our wedding reception and then headed to Whitewater Falls. We thought it would be a fun and exciting way to spend our Big day.... only it was not as good as we thought it would be. Actually it was kind of a little depressing...okay really depressing. We stopped by Ezichel's Barn to have lunch and it has been sold and bought by somebody else. Instead of a fine dining restaurant it is now a Grille. That was okay with us. It was still a special place so we decided to have lunch there. We were so bubbly excited when we got there and let the waiter know that 10 years ago we had our wedding reception at this very restaurant. We were hoping to have a great lunch and excellent service. However they stuck us in the corner and forgot about us. It took and hour and a half to get our lunch. At a Grille!!! Imagine that!! We almost walked out but, they assured us our meal was on our way to the table and then it still took 20 more minutes to get our lunch. Having a hungry 6, 4 and a 2 year old along with an infant. It was a real challenge to keep the kids quiet, seated and not disturbing others eating around us. Yes, they had food. People who arrived after us ate and left before we got our meals. It was a very exhausting lunch and we did not really enjoy it at all. The tea was old and nasty...did not taste good at all... the waiter was no where to be found. We were served ice cold old coffee...and then when we got our bill and because of the size of our large family they automatically added 20% gratuity.... Not fun!! Very upsetting... Don't eat at Lightwater Grille in Cashiers, NC. They really suck!! We will not be celebrating our 20 years there of course I don't think we will have to worry about that because they will not be in business then. They have only been open since May but, I think they will be very short lived. So anyways, after lunch we headed to the waterfall to take a new picture of the family in front of our waterfall and take pictures of Dan and I on our PB&J rock. Named after a few of us drove up to North Carolina for Spring break and had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on this rock. We admired the falls and named the rock because it was just a cool place to have a picnic. However after 10 years things change. They built a scenic overlook right over our rock. I guess other people liked the view from there as well. So, we climbed under the platform to take a picture. The railing on the overlook really takes away from the view of the falls. But, we had a good hike and the kids enjoyed seeing where mommy and daddy got married and we took a family picture from the platform. The idea of the day was a great way to spend our special day but, it was just a disappointing and exhausting day. The magic of coming back and seeing things the way they were was gone. But, we still have memories and pictures of the way things used to be I guess. Mom and Dad drove up for the weekend so they watched the kids last night so that we could go out. We drove into Bryson city and went to the little community theater. I love this little Theater. I should have taken pictures of it. It used to be a movie theater in the 50's and the seats and everything are still the same. Mostly just old people frequent it. I think we were the only young people there but, that was okay. The chairs are old and have these cushions on them that make this whistling stinker sound when you sit down. The old people giggled every time they sat down and every time Dan and I wiggled in our chair it made a "stinker". It was funny and you had to laugh! It brought smiles back to our faces. We had a great night out. We watched the play "Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming". It was cute. It was a funny little musical type production. A friend of ours was in the play and afterwards we hooked up with him and his wife and went over to their house for coffee. It was really fun to just sit back and shoot the breeze for awhile. We were out way past our bedtime but, it was nice. Here are some pictures from our day...
