2nd Gear...

I was bringing the kids home from school today and this was the conversation I had with Isaac ... He is a BIG time back seat driver and likes to point out anything he thinks is wrong or things he observes while I am driving. He is always thinking and has a lot to say about everything.

Isaac: "mom your in second gear"

Me: I look down at the dash board and say "no I am in Drive"

Isaac: "No your in second gear"

Me: "Isaac do you see the little red mark by the D that means I am in drive"

Isaac: "Yes, but I heard the engine click from 1st gear to 2nd gear and now it's in third. You have an automatic transmission and it changes all by itself. Did you know that daddy has to change his own gears"

Me: "yeah"

Isaac: "Did you know that 1st gear has more power than the higher gears but, the higher gears make you go faster?"

Me: "you know I think your right on that one"

Isaac: "How does the engine change from first gear to second? What makes it change?"

Me: Having no clue I say "I don't know...what do you think?"

Isaac: "I think there are some gears with a sensor that when the car starts to slow down it senses it and it puts it into another gear"

Me: "I am not real sure how the engine works when daddy gets home why don't you have him explain the automatic transmission to you"

Isaac: "Which engine last longer?"

Me: "what do you mean?"

Isaac: "Does an automatic transmission last longer than a manual?"

Me: My brain is hurting and I have no clue..... so I say "well, Isaac I have no Idea but, my guess would be that maybe a manual would last longer because it doesn't have as many parts to break. But, I don't know for sure"

Isaac: "How many parts does an automatic engine have?"

Me: "I don't know"

Oh, my gosh....talking to Isaac hurts my brain sometimes. I get in the car and put the car in drive and never even begin to wonder how or why the car works but, maybe that is because I am a girl. Then he asks me all these questions. Do kids brains ever turn off? I am glad to see he is thinking but, I was very happy the girls finally interrupted our conversation. I needed the breather.

You go Isaac. Learn it all so I and your dad can get some answers to the questions we have no answers to.

Awesome job Isaac!! :) He must be taking mechanic lessons from daddy. Makes you stop and realize how much "wonder" there is to fill our minds with, especially coming from a child. Keep up the learning!!! :)
